About The Academic Ideas Lab
The Academic Ideas Lab has many years of experience working at the interface of broadcast media and research in British universities. It began at the University of Birmingham and its inception was thanks to the support of HEFCE’s Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). In 2015 Ideas Lab broadened to become available to all universities in the UK. It is the only service that works with academics to stimulate new research reaching wide audiences through radio and television documentary and factual series.
The Academic Ideas Lab is run by Lucy Vernall, who as Project Director of Ideas Lab when it was based at the University of Birmingham has been a part of it since its beginning. Prior to this Lucy had 10 years’ experience in factual television, working in development and production for both independent producers and in-house BBC.
